OS for 286 ???

does anybody of you could give me a hint where I can find one OS
(perhaps UNIX-like) for my old 286?
If possible it should be able to connect to the internet, browse the
web, send and receive emails and read news of course.

Just a shot in the dark: maybe there's an old version of QNX which does
these things.

Coherent 3.x runs on an i286 with 1 MB RAM. Afaik it has no TCP/IP but
UUCP and C News. It's a System 7 like Unix, Marc Williams Co. released
it to the public after they went bankrupt (Version 4.x only runs on i386
or better).

Fuer Ihre Frage gibt es nur eine richtige antwort. MINIX! ELKS, XeniX,
Qnx, und alle andere sind veraltet, oder funktionieren nur halb (ELKS).
Das beste Unix fuer 8086 aufwaerz is Minix. geschrieben in 1997, also
ziemlich uptodate. laeft auf 8086, 640kb RAM, ohne festplatte. (also
root uns usr auf nur einer 1.44 floppy!!!). Das volle system is
ungefaehr 20MB. Unterstuetzt IDE, SCSI, ESDI festplatten, ne2000
compatible netzwerkadapter, einfacht genial. Ich spiele damit seit 5
monaten, und hab's immer noch nicht satt.
Sie koennen es downloaden auf http://www.minix.org oder Sie finden da
die links zu mirrorsites. Ich wuerde mich sehr freuen, wenn sie mir
wissen lassen was sie davin halten.

Naja. "Laeuft" ist der richtige Ausdruck. Von "Spass machen" kann dann
allerdings nicht mehr die Rede sein. Ne Festplatte sollte man schon haben!
Hab das mal auf einem EuroPC probiert, allerdings nur mit 720K-3.5"-Floppy
und 360K-5.25"-Floppy. War nicht besonders aufregend. Die Festplatte zum
EuroPC hab ich bis heute nicht. Ich habe zwar mal eine XT-Festplatte
bekommen, der Anschluss ist aber nicht gerade banal ;-(.

Ja. Aber SCSI funktioniert nur sehr eingeschraenkt, afair nur mit
Adaptec 154x, oder gibts mittlerweile weitere Treiber?
