Hallo,
I悲 like to install win95 and suse-linux 6.1 together at one harddisk.
I want to use Linux as a fileserver, Internetserver and Newsserver.
The HD has 13GB.
How and with which tool should I split up my HD?
Which is the best way for this Installation?
Thanks

It would seem asif you must decide how much space each OS will require
including all the apps or content or whatever you have. THEN, there are 2
good ways, and more not as good.
1). Use disk druid the RedHat disk tool. You could split the disk in
half, like a sandwhich.
2). Use partition magic for DOS/windows.... and make a linux partition
the size you need.

Otherwise you can use fdisk....

Dont forget to install Windows first so it can get comfortable with your
partition settings. Linux will take into account any windows settings in the
MBR when you install it so that both OS will run. I know this from
experience. I put RedHat 5.2 on my 11.8 GB HDD first (in a 3 gig partition),
then put on windows 98. Windows 98 over wrote the MBR and linux wouldn't
load. So I had to start again. :(

You didn't have to.

All you needed to do was use rawrite.exe to create a boot disk and root
disk, boot into linux with them, and rewrite lilo through the setup
command.

Make sure when you partition, make the Linux root partition ("/") with the
boot directory the FIRST one. Linux boot info must be on a sector less
than or equal to 1023. After partitioning, intall Win9x first, then do
Linux, or you will have to rescue Linux and reinstall LILO.

Hi,

I just installed suse 5.3 on a HD with existing win98 partition.
At first it didn't work because i made the wrong selection with partitioning.

I started over with formatting my HD.
I partitioned it using FDISK, i first made the dos partition only and runned
scandisk.

Then i used FIPS.exe to name the linux partitions.

I first installed W98 (unfortunately still necessary) and replaced my backup.
Next i installed linux.

The dos(98) partition is the first one one the HD and the two linux partitions
are at the end of my HD. (the manual says LINUX can be installed on every
section of your HD even on extended drives.

I installed LILO with my linux install so i can choose my OS at boot <so it
does run in the beginning of your HD>.

It worked for me !!
