Hello
and sorry for X'post, but there is some information needed urgently.
The information itself belongs to both groups I think.

We are going to buy some development boxes and have to choose out of a
very limited number of configurations (currently 1), the boxes have to
run S.u.S.E Linux 8.1+

The boxes are built upon an ASUS P4S533-MX motherboard, aller other
components look compatible. The board itself is based on a SiS 651
Chipset with SiS 962 Media Chip. There is some information around
concerning SiS 650 Asus Boards P4S533, but I do not find any information
concerning SiS 651 chipset on ASUS P4S533-MX.
Xfree 4.30 reports X-Server for SiS651. SuSE doesn't. But this may not
hurt, cause X could be upgraded.

Are there any experiences with this chipset and board - I need some
information for argueing to increase the number of choices or to just
choose the boxes. We are especially interested in
- "Can the IDE Part of the Chipset been hdparm'ed to e.g. UDM 100?"
- Is ACPI working?
- Stable?
- Problems on installation?
On linux-tested.com it looks like, installation should work, but the
other questions remain unclear. Furthermore I wonder, why only SuSE did
install, and why there are not test resports for installation of Red Hat
& Co on this board reported (Installation failed?)

Any hints welcome regarding Linux and Asus P4S533-MX with SiS 651/962L

Regards

Gregor
