USB scanner does not work with ASUS P2B (Windows 98) - resistor problem or what?!

hi there

I got a very bad problem with an USB scanner AGFA Snapscan 1212U for my
Celeron 300a Windows 98 Pc, with an Asus P2B M.B.
I firstly Installed the software / driver Scanwise 1.0.0.8 (driver Agfa
19/3/1999)... in the beginning everything seemed ok, I also did a quick
scan of a photo (the result was not ok, there were some white horizonatl
lines anyway).
But as soon as I tried a second scan, I got error messages about
"unexpected errors"...
then I dowloaded the last version of Scanwise, but I succeed in doing
only 2 or 3 scans... the machine does not work and i always get various
error messages.
Now I heard / read that some ASUS (like P2B-F, i think I have plain P2B)
has a bad USB interface and that one is supposed to replace a resistor
(R232, 74 ohm)... is that right?! Is this a difficuly operation?! Asus
can do something for that (I live in Italy anyway!)?! Is there some web
page about replacing resistors?!

NOTE:
- The ony SCSI I got is CD-RW Yamaha 4416.
- My scanner has also a weird behaviour, as the green light in the front
flashes totally at random, and the same is for the scanner itself, which
sometimes has some mechanism moving, while internal light suddenly
awake.

Have installed the latest BIOS for your P2B? Should be ver. 1011beta2....

Yeah i also installed the latest Bios...
By the way someone says it's Asus p2b fault, someone sats it's the agfa
scanner... help!!!!
