no PUT possible with my TFTP server

I am trying to set up an TFTP server with my Linux box (REDHAT 5.2), to
save configuation files from my Motorola 6560 (X.25-node).
Up to now I have a little problem: When I try to save the configuration
with a PUT to the affected Linux box I always get the following message:

Status: TFTP: Remote transfer failure
TFTP error text = File not found
TFTP error code = 1

PING is o.k., now I tried to make a PUT testfile from another host to
the linux box. In the log files I can see that the linux box shows a GET
testfile.
Strange situation: GET always works, put PUT is also always interpreted
from the linux box as a GET ...

What am I doing wrong?
