Subject: Interest in Giant Mantas

Recently, I had the extraordinary pleasure of diving with Giant Mantas off
of Socorro Island. I am a layman; very much NOT a marine biologist.
However, I would like to learn more about Manta behavior, physiology, etc.

I would very much appreciate it if someone would recommend some sources of
information. Thank you in advance for your help.

Mr. McGettigan,

I believe that it is Dr. Rubin who is interviewed in that Hawaii manta
segment which is included in the "Hydrospeeders" episode of "The Aquanauts"
television series that repeat airs later today (Sunday, January 16th) on the
Animal Planet channel:

Interesting segment on the Mantas off Hawaii in the episode (titled
"Hydrospeeders") of "The Aquanauts" television series(which is currently
airing on the Animal Planet channel in the USA). "Hydrospeeders" repeat airs
this Sunday(January 16th)in the USA according to the following URL:

James: Thanks for relaying my request for a copy of the show that I was
involved with the Aquanauts. I had sent Paolo
a note concerning my request through Wendy. As of present I haven't heard
anything. Standing by, John

Hi John,

You're welcome...

PS: Your "Seawatch(http://www.seawatch.org)/Sea of Cortez" segment was
nicely done (again, it was part of the "Marine Firefighters" episode and
most
likely will repeat air). My segment(with the Shark POD) was the lead segment
to the "Escape from Alcatraz" episode of "The Aquanauts" which initially
aired this past Tuesday(as it most likely will repeat too like the other
episodes have)... Both "Marine Firefighters" and "Escape from Alcatraz" are
referenced at the following Web site for "The Aquanauts":

http://animal.discovery.com/sched/domestic/series/92/1159.html

(if in another time zone of the USA, substract your time difference from the
USA east coast time referenced at the above referenced Web site for "The
Aquanauts"). "The Aquanauts" just started airing in the UK(on the Animal
Planet channel)and will be broadcast throughout the rest of Europe(Canada
and Australia as well).

The upcoming February, 2000 issue of "Skin Diver" magazine (which should be
on the shelf in the USA in about a week or so) includes a profile article on
Mason Dragotto(who is the "Aquanaut" that had interviewed me in Marina del
Rey)by Karl Shreeves of PADI. I just picked up a copy last night...

Best regards,

Jim Morris
