1. Developer's corner

First off, D3Edit, the D3 level editor, has been released! You can
download it from the D3Edit site (http://www.d3edit.tricordnet.com/), or
here. http://www.descentworld.com/Files/Descent3/d3edit09.exe

Good news for scripters!

According to Jeff Slutter (Outrage) VC++ no longer is a requirement to
compile scripts.

"Today I finally got a successful build of Anarchy that worked in the game,
compiled via GCC for Windows (Mingw32 EGCS). So it looks like no longer will
Microsoft Visual C++ be a requirement. Other compilers might work also now
(such as Borland)."

"You won't be able to compile just yet. You'll have to wait for the first D3
patch and the next release of the SDK (which will follow soon after the
patch). In order for GCC to work I had to create C interface functions for
every class function there is in DMFC. You must use the C interface
functions instead of the normal vtable calls (so instead of calling
something like DMFCBase->GetPlayerNum() you would call IDMFC_GetPlayerNum
(DMFCBase).)"

"There will definitely be a version of Anarchy that is entirely C interface
calls...I'm hoping to get around to 'porting' the Entropy source also."

And in a response to whether the Monsterball code will be released Jeff says
the following:

"I'll talk it over with the boss..."

So maybe we'll see that Monsterball code yet...I hope so.

Of course, this won't work until the patch and a new version of the SDK is
both released.

SERVMAN32

The Version 2.0 beta 01 [build 60] release of SERVMAN32 posted a couple days
ago by DNet contained a bug which would cause crashes when the weapons
selections are used, and also with launching multiple servers on one
machine. These bugs have been fixed. Version 2.0 beta01b [build 65] is now
available for download!!

It's available at the official SERVMAN32 page on DNet at
http://www.descent-3.com/descman/servman/index.html and is also mirrored at
DescentWorld at
http://www.descentworld.com/Files/SERVMAN32-Version-Beta-01b-Build-65-07-08-

Another bit of information that people might not know, is that there is a
well-written on-line manual for SERVMAN32 at
http://www.descent-3.com/descman/servman/manual/win32/index.htm

6. Descent News

Nocturnal D3 re-released (First Descent 3 level)

Nocturnal D3 had to be re-released. He added one more homing missile, and
removed hoard support (because the goal was small, there could be problems).
Also, the doors were changed to a different type of door that opened faster.
There was a light added in one of the dark corners.
Download it here:

Another D3 level released!

Escape (D3) has been released. I played through it a bit in HyperAnarchy,
and I must say it's pretty cool. What's really interesting is that there are
a lot of custom graphics. Check it out.

DescentWorld will always be your source for new levels for every version of
Descent and FreeSpace. You can download this level here:
