Welcome to all of our new members. We are glad to have you on board.
It will take all of us to make this club a success.
I am waiting for the minutes from Saturday's meeting and I will post
them as soon as I have them. Here's a brief summary of what we
discussed:
*As the Diversity and Social Justice Committee (Club) our focus is
making a positive impact on our community, therefore, we need to start
working on our first club project. We discussed doing a clothing drive
in the spring and a food drive in the fall. Also, since we have a
budding hip-hop artist in our group we thought it would be fun to
organize a HIP-HOP social event. We have not determined when or what
organization will benefit from the show yet, but that is were we need
your input.
*We also discussed ways to recruit new members to our club. Since we
have to be sure to follow all school guidelines, Professor March has
sent a letter to the manager of student services requesting
clarification on what we can and cannot do. We are waiting for her
response, but word of mouth advertising is always legal. If you have
friends or classmates who are Devry students and you think they might
be interested in joining us, invite them to a meeting to see what we
are all about. Remember, there is power in numbers.
*This is our chance to have fun just doing something that we love,
HELPING OTHERS.
*Lastly, we still have not held elections for the open Officer
positions for our club. Although we will all be working hard and
helping each other complete club tasks, it is impotant for us to
satisfy the school's requirements for club structure. Don't be afraid
to show off your leadership skills. I think that we need to set up a
meeting within the next 2 weeks for the elections. Professor March
emailed all of us a copy of the club's Constitution and a powerpoint
slide with club information. The constitution has a list of the
officer positions and what duties they entail. I will try to post a
copy of the constitution on this sight as soon as a figure out how
(SMILE). I'm new to Google groups and it doesn't look like it supports
attachments. If anyone is more familiar, please don't hesitate to help
me out.

REMEMBER, This club should be enjoyable, not work or stress. We all
have jobs, schoolwork, families and social lives. We can get things
done without a million face-to-face meetings, but we do need to make a
couple of meetings to get it started and organized. In between we can
communicate using this board and email, but the key is communication.
Now, enough from me, I need to hear from you guys. One suggestion at
the last meeting was that we meet a little later in the day. What are
your club suggestions?

hello, Wendy!
First, I want to say, thank you for the warm welcome! I am super-
excited about joining this program and meeting everyone else. I enjoy
helping others and improving our community. It makes me feel good to
see the community coming together doing positive and fun things. This
will be my first time being involved in a program like this, and I am
more than happy to be a part of it. I have "tons" of clothes to give
to the "needy" and food to spare, so this event will work great for
me! Lastly, I am interested and open to the officer positions, as
well! I am looking forward to meeting you all!
