Supplemental DSP Training Updates Effective November 15, 2021
DBHDS is pleased to announce that new material for the DSP Orientation Training will be effective 11/15/21. Two topics are being added to supplement the existing curriculum that relate to identifying and responding to changes in mental status and choking risk. The DSP Orientation Test will be modified to include questions related to these topics.
This supplemental DSP training content is required for all DSPs and DSP Supervisors hired on or after 11/15/21.
The supplemental DSP training content is strongly recommended, not required, for DSPs and DSP Supervisors who were hired before November 15, 2021 and have already completed DSP Orientation Training prior to November 15, 2021. It can be included in annual refresher training or as appropriate at the provider's discretion.
A Medicaid Memo regarding this change is forthcoming and updates have been requested to improve the organization of these materials on the DBHDS website. In the meantime, to give providers as much time as possible to prepare, the new modules are being provided in various formats along with a copy of the new test. The additional formats are being provided to assist providers who choose to integrate the content into their existing training programs. The new materials can be accessed at the DSP Supplemental Training Materials link below.
