Dear DDI Community, dear Paul Libbrecht, dear Pierre-Antoine Champin

The Metadata Publication and Access Working Group has now finalized the draft of the application for a media type for DDI-Codebook. The Technical Committee is conducting a combined Expert and Comprehension Review in preparation for its submission.

The proposed content for the form to be submitted by the DDI Alliance can be found here: https://github.com/ddialliance/mpawg/blob/main/applications_media_type/ddi-codebook.md

As we intend to apply for a media type in the standards tree, the DDI Alliance first needs to be recognized as a standards organization by the IESG. Therefore, the idea to submit an application for DDI-Lifecycle at the same time has been postponed until we see how things develop.

A template for comments is available at:

We are looking for comments in the following areas:
  • General: Observations and feedback that apply to the overall document, chapter, or multiple sections rather than a specific line or clause. This type is also used when you have broad concerns about the document's scope, general direction, or approach.
  • Editorial: Comments concerned strictly with format, presentation, spelling, grammar, or terminology consistency. These changes correct errors but do not impact or alter the technical meaning or intent of the text.
  • Technical: Comments that propose an actual technical change to the document. These are used to correct incorrect or missing technical content, fix parameters, or address concerns regarding performance and requirements.

Timeline:
The combined review is taking place over a 6 week period beginning 20 July 2026

All the best,
Oliver Hopt
Chair of DDI Technical Committee
