Hi!

Thank you for the report, Arofan, very interesting!

I read that the combination and integration of data from different sources is also growing within statistical communities. This is very similar to the needs in mixed methods research and is one of the focuses of the QDWG.

Regardless of the methods used (e.g. mostly qualitative with quantitative variable derivations, or gathering sources and information "out there," such as social media data or administrative registers, which can include audiovisual materials...) I see the need for people to link these resources with microdata or other quantitative values. For this purpose and as you wrote, DDI products (especially DDI-CDI) seem very suitable.

If, in addition, these unstructured resources have been processed or enhanced with annotations of any type, such as qualitative memos, tags from NER tools, or translations or transliterations of text segments, it would be helpful to link or integrate these annotations with all the other variables.

I wonder if we could consider such a use case from the field of statistics. For example: https://indico.un.org/event/1021447/contributions/812/

Would it be a good idea to contact some of those people (or someone else you know in the field of statistics with similar needs) and ask them about their workflows and how they keep track of these materials?

Since I'm not familiar with statistics, and assuming you agree to approach them, I would like to team up with some of you on this use case.

Best

Noemi
