Holy Saturday 2026

That Saturday

It was the Sabbath day.

There were prohibitions,

but his body was going nowhere.

Yet on this day the harrowed

disciples did not know that he

was harrowing Hell,

smashing its gates and liberating

the newest prisoner, Judas,

then Adam and Eve the longest,

and all others since and to come.

As no one deserves redemption,

he rescued all the undeserving.

We were there, along with the

monsters who rightly appal us,

but he made no distinction.

Yes, he says, you can come too.

This is incredible, awesome,

offensive, wonderful.

Let the Church know as much

as that today and dwell upon it.

The Sunday miracle is yet to be,

and we shall feel the joy the more

if we have known the condemnation.
