Christmas 2025

A Gold Watch

I’ve never seen such a sight in the Heavens,

and I see quite a few,

the Moon and stars and shooting ones, you know.

This was pure gold, and so bright!

The angel Gabriel was leading his choir in singing God’s glory,

and he spoke better than a Rabbi.

So down we went.

Smelling of our sheep we are welcome in that place.

Seeing the baby I am weeping tears of comfort and joy,

of privilege and incredulity,

and feel the honour of a new rank in this divided nation.

Better than a New Year's gong.

Gabriel brought some of his gold down and gave it to old Joe,

who sprinkled it around. Oh it was like incense!

And then Mary gave each of us a gold watch.

Just for being there!

I said to her, I said,

you know you’re always welcome

to stay up at our Bothy.

Bring the baby.

As if a King would be seen in it!

I love my gold watch.

And now I’ve met its Maker.
