Subject: MHAM TO HOST BEHAVIORAL HEALTH STRATEGIC PLANNING DISCUSSION WITH FAMILIES AND PEOPLE RECEIVING SERVICES FROM THE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM

August 5, 2020

Good evening!  Sending out a note to invite you to a session with Allen Jansen, the new Senior Deputy Director for the Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Administration.  The BHDDA is working on five pillars to provide a framework for the Department's strategic planning process and your feedback is needed.  To keep the conversation focused, we are looking for your ideas about what is working and how to make things better.

NOTE:  This meeting is NOT focused on the proposed system redesign that was rolled out by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services back in December of 2019.   The system redesign with the SIPS is on hold for now.  MHAM had this confirmed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer's office that the current redesign is on hold.

Please see below for information and if you have questions, email me at mhuf...@gmail.com.  Notice will be posted on the Mental Health Association in Michigan Facebook page and website.

Title: MDHHS Behavioral Health Strategic Planning Discussion With Families & People Receiving Services
Date:
Tuesday, August 11
Time: 5-6:30pm
Hosts/Facilitators: Marianne Huff, LMSW, President & CEO, MHAM | Allan Jansen, Senior Deputy Director, BHDDA | Lisa Grost,
Public Policy Analyst, BHDDA

Description:  The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services - Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Administration (BHDDA) is looking for your feedback about its strategic plan.  BHDDA is the state agency that oversees the community mental health system in Michigan and it wants to hear from you and those whom you love and support.

Now is your opportunity to let your voice be heard! If you have thoughts or ideas about the community mental health system in Michigan and want to make them known, then this meeting is for you.

The five (5) foundational pillars of BHDDA's plan are:

I.  Ensure everyone have access to behavioral health, mental health and substance use prevention, treatment, services recovery and follow up services for the best quality life.

II. Provide people with outreach, service delivery, and access to behavioral health services at their preferred locations (clinic, community, home) and mechanisms (in person, telehealth, telephone).

III. Provide quality and time efficient patient care transitions from community to residential treatment or institution (hospital, juvenile detention centers, jail) to community with individualized clinical treatment.

IV. Assist people with physical and behavioral health care at the initial appointments through a person-centered approach and inclusion of social determinants of health (economic stability, housing/transportation, education, food, social support).

V. Focus on people having good health outcomes by increasing oversight of the Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans.
