ü Lakeshore Regional Entity, state agree on temporary contract durin
Holland Sentinel- The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has agreed to not cancel the Lakeshore Regional Entity’s contract with the state while an appeal process plays out. The LRE is the prepaid inpatient health plan for parts of West Michigan, including Ottawa and Allegan counties. It distributes Medicaid funds to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In June, MDHHS officially moved to cancel the LRE’s contract with the state, effective Sep. 30, due to financial and management concerns. On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the LRE requested a hearing to overturn the decision, saying the MDHHS did not go through due process to terminate the contract. Greg Hofman, CEO of the LRE, met with MDHHS officials on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and said the department “realized they have to go through the full appeal process.” MDHHS and the LRE are still in negotiations, according to Hofman. He added the MDHHS will produce a temporary contract for the LRE, which will be reviewed at the LRE’s September board meeting.
