As many of you know, Rosemary Rangi and I recently met with Rep. Whiteford and Rep. Schroeder in Lansing where we became aware of Rep. Whiteford's initiative to drive changes in the current Community Mental Health system from what she repeatedly referenced as a "clean slate" approach. Rep. Whiteford outlined what she indicated would be a series of sessions where she and members of the Appropriation Sub-committee for Health and Human Services would hear input from subject matter experts in Michigan's CMH process, consultants and take public comment, all focused on driving change and improvement in Michigan's current CMH system.
Attached you will find a schedule of the committee sessions that Rep. Whiteford has planned to review and drive change in the CMH process. Please note that the first of these work sessions occurred on October 2nd, featuring past Director of Michigan Department Of Community Health, Jim Haveman and current CEO of Kalamazoo Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Jeff Patton as speakers.
You can watch the archived video copy of the October 2nd and future work sessions by accessing the house.mi.gov website, clicking on House T.V., then click on Archived Video, then scroll down to the Appropriations Health & Human Services Oct 2nd, 2019 session and click on video.
I would urge everyone to try to attend one or both of the public comment sessions in person in Lansing to express your personal views on this very important matter that will likely frame how we receive CMH services in the future.
