Research Scientist/Engineer – Mobile & Pervasive Systems

Distributed & Mobile Computing

With the proliferation of mobile phones and the ubiquity of smart sensors/devices, the next-generation of services and applications need to be capable of adapting in highly dynamic operating environments and, in particular, be sensitive to the context of the participants. With this vision, the Xerox Research Centre India (XRCI) is growing a competency in mobile and pervasive computing that can be leveraged for solving societal-scale problems and positively impact multiple industry domains ranging from improved infrastructure, to better healthcare and education, to increased productivity and infotainment. In particular, we are actively seeking for Research Scientists as well as Research Engineers to join our world-class team of innovators at XRCI.

Applicants should have a strong background in (one or more of) the following areas;  with a strong drive and proven track record to apply fundamental concepts in computer science to cutting-edge solutions that cater to the needs of Xerox Services offerings:

·         Context-aware Mobile Services and Applications

·         Large-scale Sensing and Analytics

·         Organizational and social networks analysis

·         Mobile Advertising

·         Cloud-enabled Mobile Systems

Specialized domain expertise i.e. mobile health, mobile education, and smart cities solutions

 

For the Research Scientist position, a successful candidate will be expected to apply the highest level of technical competence, analytical and problem solving abilities in support of original and creative scientific projects of significant business impact.  While being an independent thinker and contributor, s/he will collaborate effectively with top scientists from across Xerox’s global research labs, as well as with business and development teams, and open innovation partners in leading academic institution.  The candidate will create significant intellectual property, and publish in top tier conferences and journals.  Desired skills and qualifications include:

1.        A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines with sound technical expertise in one or more of the above mentioned areas

2.        Demonstrable ability to formulate scientifically challenging problems and develop and implement novel solutions

3.        Prior experience in world-class research institutions (if applicable) with proven technology impact

4.        Strong track record of publications in top-tier forums

5.        Ability to work independently  as well as in a team of multidisciplinary colleagues

6.        Excellent written and oral communication skills

For the Research Engineer position, a successful candidate will be responsible for prototyping, designing and implementing complex and cutting edge mobile/pervasive solutions that can be effectively transitioned to business offerings. S/he will work with the team of research scientists to transform scientific ideas and insights into information architectures, conceptual prototypes and eventually scalable solutions. The candidate will also contribute to generation of business ideas, publications and patents. Desired skills and qualifications include:

1.        At least 2 years of hands on experience on Android Application Development with Java , Android SDK, Eclipse, and other relevant tools with sound understanding of Android Architecture and Framework

2.        Demonstrable ability of conceptualizing, building and rapid prototyping of large-scale mobile systems in enterprise settings

3.        Solid understanding and development experience in at least one of the Web development technologies/framework i.e. Python Django, PHP, Ruby on Rails

4.        Implementation of machine learning/data mining algorithms in past projects, with proven ability to collect and analyse large-scale mobile sensing data, is a bonus

5.        Ability to work independently  as well as in a team of multidisciplinary colleagues

6.        Excellent written and oral communication skills

Research Scientist: Optimization/Operations Research

Algorithms & Optimization

The Algorithms & Optimization group at Xerox Research Centre India is seeking researchers with strong technical expertise in the field of Optimization/Operations Research to participate in exciting research and technology development projects. The focus of research is to solve various optimization and decision-making problems that arise from Xerox Services and Technology business.  Applicants should have strong background in the general domain of optimization and operations research, with deep expertise in one or more of mathematical modeling, simulation, stochastic models, decision analysis, and combinatorial optimization. 

 

The successful candidate will lead/participate in cutting edge research and will apply the highest level of technical competence, analytical and problem solving abilities in addressing complex decision-making and optimization problems in support of creative scientific projects of significant business impact. While being an independent thinker and contributor, he/she will collaborate effectively with top scientists from across Xerox’s global research labs, as well as with business and development teams, and open innovation partners in leading academic institution.  The candidate will create valuable intellectual property, and publish in top tier conferences and journals.

 

The ideal candidate for the research scientist position will have

·         A PhD (or masters with relevant experience)   in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, or related disciplines, with sound technical expertise in one or more of the above mentioned areas

·         Hands-on experience with optimization tools like CPLEX, Gurobi, Matlab, R etc., and familiarity with simulation environments such as Arena/AnyLogic is a plus

·         Strong track record of publications

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Research Scientist: Business Process Modeling, Analysis & Optimization

Algorithms & Optimization

We are seeking researchers with strong technical expertise in the area of Business Process Modeling, Analysis and Optimization, to participate in exciting research and technology development projects. The focus of these projects will be on building formal models to characterize large distributed service environments and complex business processes, design cost and performance optimized policies for execution, monitoring, and coordination in such systems, and  analyze and identify scope for process improvements. Applicants should have a strong background in the general domain of large scale systems modeling, analysis, and optimization with deep expertise in one or more of Discrete Event Systems Modeling and Simulation, Agent Based Systems Modeling, Business Process Modeling and Simulation, and Linear and Non-linear Optimization.

 

The successful candidate will lead/participate in cutting edge research and will apply the highest level of technical competence, analytical and problem solving abilities in support of original and creative scientific projects of significant business impact.  While being an independent thinker and contributor, he/she will collaborate effectively with top scientists from across Xerox’s global research labs, as well as with business and development teams, and open innovation partners in leading academic institutions.  The candidate will create valuable intellectual property, and publish in top tier conferences and journals.

Research Scientist: Algorithmic Game Theory and Mechanism Design

Algorithms & Optimization

We are is seeking researchers with strong technical expertise in the field of Algorithmic Game Theory and Mechanism Design to participate in exciting research and technology innovation projects. The focus of these projects would be on designing and developing novel algorithms and solutions for modeling and incentivizing human agents to achieve a target behaviour, in various problems that arise from Xerox Services and Technology business. Example application domains include transportation, crowdsourcing, healthcare, and human resource management. Applicants should have a strong background in the general area of algorithmic game theory and mechanism design with deep expertise in one or more of mathematical modelling, truthful and incentive compatible mechanism design, pricing problems, auctions for revenue maximization, cooperative game theory, linear and non-linear optimization, stochastic optimization, network games, or simulation, while being interested in developing innovative solutions for real-world business problems.

 

The successful candidate will lead/participate in cutting edge research and will apply the highest levels of technical competence,  analytical and problem solving abilities, in support of creative scientific projects of significant business impact. While being an independent thinker and contributor, he/she will also collaborate effectively with top scientists from across Xerox’s global research labs, as well as business and development teams, and with open innovation partners in leading academic institution.
