Job Description
We are seeking a
highly experienced Kafka Administrator to manage, support, and optimize
enterprise-scale Apache Kafka and Confluent Kafka environments.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Kafka cluster
administration, performance tuning, monitoring, security implementation,
automation, and disaster recovery. This role requires close collaboration with
development and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable, secure, and
high-performing event streaming platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer, and upgrade
Apache Kafka and Confluent Kafka clusters.
- Manage Kafka brokers, ZooKeeper/KRaft, Kafka
Connect, and Schema Registry.
- Configure and maintain Kafka topics,
partitions, replication factors, and retention policies.
- Monitor Kafka cluster health, broker
performance, consumer lag, throughput, and latency using Prometheus,
Grafana, JMX, or similar monitoring tools.
- Perform capacity planning, performance tuning,
and proactive optimization of Kafka infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain Kafka security using
SSL/TLS, SASL, Kerberos, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
- Troubleshoot Kafka broker, producer, and
consumer issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and resolve production
incidents.
- Design and maintain high availability,
replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Develop automation scripts and deployment
processes using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, or Python.
- Support Kafka deployments in containerized
environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Collaborate with application development teams
to onboard new applications, optimize producer and consumer
configurations, and support event-driven architectures.
- Maintain operational documentation, deployment
procedures, and best practices for Kafka platform management.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall IT experience with strong
expertise in Kafka administration.
- Hands-on experience administering Apache Kafka
and Confluent Kafka in production environments.
- Strong knowledge of Kafka architecture,
brokers, topics, partitions, replication, ZooKeeper, and KRaft.
- Experience with Kafka Connect and Schema
Registry.
- Strong Linux/Unix system administration skills.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as
Prometheus, Grafana, and JMX.
- Experience implementing Kafka security using
SSL/TLS, SASL, Kerberos, and ACLs.
- Proficiency in scripting using Python, Bash,
or Java.
- Experience with infrastructure automation
tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or
OpenShift.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and
problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration
abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale,
high-availability Kafka clusters.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and
Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Confluent Kafka or Apache Kafka certifications
are a plus.
- Experience working in enterprise production
environments with mission-critical applications.
