All,
Jenn here - Lead Organizer of the DC Open 211 project. I believe I’ve met most of you through Greg, but for those of you who haven’t met me, allow me to give a brief intro. I’m an Atlanta native with a background in nonprofit fundraising and communication. I’m a novice coder of Python who is passionate about harnessing civic innovation to solve community problems. I believe in this project and I’m really excited to work with all of you.
We’ve had a busy last few months. It’s time to reconvene and discuss our progress on this project.
There’s a few things we see on the agenda:
DC’s Mayor just issued an ‘Open Data Directive,” and invited the community to identify high-value data sets that they should make available in an accessible format. This is a great chance for us to support the government as they work to make their service directory data more available.
I represented DC at the Open Referral initiative’s first workshop, and I’d like to share our report back and lessons learned.
The Open Referral initiative is also releasing a new model for structuring community resource directory data — you’ll hear more about that soon, and it will be good to discuss in person.
We have a live version of a ‘DC resource directory platform’ up and running [see here: http://dcopen211api.herokuapp.com/] and it’s time to discuss next steps.
There may be more! If you’re interested in resuming this conversation with us, let’s talk and see if you might have other topics to add to our agenda.
We have this Doodle poll with some options for picking a date.
