Folks -
I'm pleased to announce that we are finalizing details for the inaugural Open Referral Workshop. It will take place two months from now, during July 9-11 in the San Francisco Bay Area. (The precise schedule and venue are TBD.)
This Workshop is made possible by the California Health Care Foundation, and will be facilitated by
Stewards of Change, with support from our local team leads and working group members.
The objectives of the workshop are to a) learn about what this issue looks like from each of the various perspectives at our table, b) review our work so far and evaluate the proposed process moving forward, c) apply our case scenarios (as developed by the DC / SF Bay Local Teams) to guide the conceptual and technical development of the Open Referral model, d) plan for the implementation, testing, evaluation, and governance of this model.
The bulk of the workshop will have a rather limited capacity -- with no more than 40 people in the room.
Rather than invite specific people, we're identifying the types of perspectives that we want in the room, and inviting those in our networks to nominate themselves or delegated participants. Each of the participants will have a specific role, including some work to be done in advance of the workshop (!) and a commitment to move the work forward past the workshop.
Those perspectives include:
- user group representatives, from our 'lead stakeholders' (community anchors) in the Bay (and possibly DC);
- I&R provider representatives including 2-1-1 leadership + resource data specialists, as well as other I&R providers;
- software vendors including 2-1-1/I&R vendors as well as emergent vendors that serve community anchors and consumers directly;
- government leadership presumably from our pilot localities but possibly also state and federal;
- funder representatives who are stepping up to serve as 'user groups' of the 'analyst' type;
- and subject matter specialists, presumably those who are active in our Working Group, who have experience with human service info-system interoperability generally and I&R interoperability especially.
We're aiming to include between two to six of each of these types of participant at the event.
We do have a budget to support travel from places outside of the Bay. I expect this will be allocated specifically to participants in the Open Referral Working Group and a small number of representatives from the DC pilot project -- but if anyone in this forum is interested, please reach out to talk about it.
For the many people who are interested in this process but probably unable to attend, please note: a) we will design interactive components that enable people who are not present to follow along and even participate from afar; b) we will produce a detailed report from the event; c) this will be just the first Workshop among a series!
Questions? Interest? The agenda for this event is still taking shape, and we'd welcome your feedback.
Onwards!
