Community feedback is critical to the search for our next Chancellor.
Dear Washingtonians,

My name is Paul Kihn and I am the Acting Deputy Mayor for Education. Central to my role is to listen to and engage our students, parents, educators, and community members on efforts to continue driving student improvements forward.

Over the past several months, the Our Schools Committee has conducted engagement forums throughout the District for our DC Public Schools Chancellor Search. Community engagement and feedback are critical to the search for our next Chancellor.

We have heard from parents, teachers, students, and community members about what qualities the Chancellor should possess, as well as what the Chancellor should prioritize in our schools. I encourage you to visit ourschools.dc.gov to read over the notes from those engagement forums. For those who were not able to attend one of our three engagement forums, I also ask that you contribute your voice to the search by completing our online survey posted on the Our Schools website. The survey is scheduled to close on October 23 to ensure results are incorporated into the Our Schools Committee report. Every bit of feedback helps us build a brighter future for our schools.

Personally, I have worked in public education for nearly three decades. I began my career as a teacher and later served as the Deputy Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. Most recently, I have worked in Washington, DC as an independent consultant, guiding school operators, city agencies, and philanthropies on effective strategies for improving equity and better serving at-risk students and youth. I deeply understand the value of parent, family, and community perspectives, and we look forward to your continued input on this important work.

Sincerely,

Paul Kihn
Acting Deputy Mayor for Education
