Rookie alert...

I have created a DICOM image with jpg2dcm with the following tags:

StudyInstanceUID=1.2.840.113619.2.55.3.313300738.3177.1109193820.781
Modality=CT
InstitutionName=Somewhere Hospital
00100020=M123456790
StudyDate=20050224
00080050=999CT545
SeriesNumber=0
PatientName=LASTNAME^FIRST MI
PatientBirthDate=19800101

That StudyUID already exists in the destination PACS.  My intent is to update the study in PACS with an arbitrary accession number.  The image sends fine (with dcmsnd) and joins the study.  The single image contains the accession number that I supplied but the the remaining images are not updated.  Is there a way to make Accession a study level tag with jpg2dcm?  Am I not understanding the laws of DICOM? Or, does this sound like a limitation in the destination PACS?

I'm afraid that's not how dcm4chee works. You can't update the accession number of studies already on the server by sending a new matching study with the accession number.

Are you using dcm4chee as your destination PACS, or some other vendor's PACS?  Just curious because different PACS will treat the accession number differently because there are no hard and fast rules about it, such as a UID.

would it be possible to configure the coercion rules in the attribute filter to overwrite with the new accession number ?

Thanks for the responses.

The destination is a Philips (Stentor) iSite PACS.  Sounds like another case of that and other PACS registerring the DICOM Header fields to database in all sorts of ways; to say the least.  I will continue testing to hopefully find the right touch in that PACS.

Arnold, a developer co-worker has pulled the source code into Eclipse. If we/he end up trying that, I will certainly let you know how the testing goes.
