March 1, 2013
Step Right Up, Get Your Free Demo
The BODIES REVEALED exhibition closes on March 31, and The Discovery Center will resume its familiar layout – with all that space and all those fun, interactive exhibits to explore. As promised, we will present our most popular science demonstrations free of charge! During April and May, Simple Machines, States of Matter, All about Nothing (about vacuums) or Volts & Jolts can be added to your field trip at no cost to your school. School field trip admission to the Discovery Center remains the same, just $3 per student, with teacher and chaperones admitted free. (If yours is a Title 1 school, admission is simply free.) Our Spring calendar fills up fast, so call -- (208) 287-4236 -- soon!
BODIES REVEALED? It’s Not Quite Too Late…
If you’re still planning to get your students in to see BODIES REVEALED – plan fast! Good time slots are still available for this phenomenal exhibition, but it does close on March 31. The group admission fee of $10 per student, $7 per chaperone, includes the classic DCI exhibits too. (Title 1 schools pay just $7 per student or adult.) To schedule that visit, just email a.ch...@dcidaho.org with the date and time you prefer, the grade level and number in your group, your Title 1 status, and whether you are coming to see the classic DCI exhibits or BODIES REVEALED -– or call Anne at (208) 287-4236.
Spring Break Camp & Science Saturdays
Your students will keep thinking in spite of Spring Break (or Spring Fever) if they sign up for Spring Break Camp (March 25-29) at the Discovery Center – or enroll in one of our single-day Science Saturdays. Details about these scientific adventures are at www.dcidaho.org.
Science To Go
Students eager for more science than you can provide? Let Science After School help. When your school hosts a Science After School program, carefully-trained Discovery Center staff arrive once a week to bring science education, hands-on experiments, and interactive fun. The program can be tailored to different grade levels or time spans, with classes meeting for one hour immediately after school for 4-8 weeks. Parents pick up the tab for students who choose to participate, DCI handles the paperwork and supplies, and your school provides only the classroom. For details call 287-4236.
And don’t forget the DCI Outreach team, eager to bring entertaining science education and activity to your school assembly or fundraiser! Just call 208-287-4235 to learn all the exciting options available.
Geared up for the Tournament of Innovation?
Students who registered for the Tournament of Innovation, our annual Science and Invention Competition, should be finalizing their projects, to be ready for the Regional Competitions (in Boise and Idaho Falls) on March 22-23. And teachers are encouraged to sign up to judge either the Regionals or the State competition in Boise on April 5. (Great fun and folks, and a great dinner too!) Details on our website, or call 208-287-4236.
