Teacher Updates from the Discovery Center

November 1, 2012

Something for everyone --  always -- at DCI!

From the Bubble Wall to the Bed of Nails, long-time favorite exhibits at the Discovery Center are always ready to intrigue and entertain your students.  BODIES REVEALED occupies just half of the museum, leaving lots of space for hands-on fun.  A new Physiology Exhibit occupies the former classroom, and Freddy’s Discovery Market awaits pint-sized shoppers. Your class can explore the “classic” Discovery Center exhibits for just $3 per student, with teacher and chaperones admitted free. And if a popular demo like Simple Machines or States of Matter is on your agenda, just choose a date in April or May, when demos will be offered FREE this year! (Title 1 groups are all admitted free, thanks to the generous donors to our Good Neighbor program.)  School groups that include BODIES REVEALED in their visit will pay a total of just $10 per student, $7 per adult chaperone. (Title 1 schools will pay just $7 per student or adult for BODIES REVEALED.) To schedule a field trip and take advantage of these great rates, just email a.ch...@dcidaho.org with the date and time you prefer, the grade level and number in your group, your Title 1 status, and whether you are coming to see the classic DCI exhibits or BODIES REVEALED -– or call Anne Church at (208) 287-4236.

Vacation daycamps help fill the learning gap

Once again this year, the Discovery Center will help keep your students on their toes during school vacations.  Our trademark, interactive science fun will fill the days of each of the upcoming daycamps: The Thanksgiving Feast (of Sciences) -- November 19-21, 2012; Winter Whirlwind -- December 26-28, 2012; and Spring Break Camp --March 25-29, 2013.  The BODIES REVEALED exhibition is not included in any of these camps – but all sorts of scientific adventure will be!  Details available on our website at www.dcidaho.org.

It’s time to start innovating!

Sign up now to participate in the exciting Tournament of Innovation, the statewide showcase for inventive problem-solvers.  The Regional Competitions are set for March 22-23 in Southwestern and Eastern Idaho; the State Finals will be held April 5-6 in Boise.  If you submit the online participation form by December 7,  a registration packet will be sent directly to you.  Details are available on the Discovery Center website – http://www.dcidaho.org/Educate/TofI.php  --  or call Tori Powers at (208) 287-4235 for more information.
