Hi all,

As we move into Spring, there are exciting happenings at the Discovery
Center. This time we'll cover:

* Invent Idaho
* New Fieldtrip Demo Plans
* New Outreach Coordinator
* Free - Meet a Scientist

We just finished another good year of Invent Idaho and are looking to
expand next year. This is our annual state-wide invention contest that
has been for 1st-8th grade students. Starting next year, we will open it
up to everyone. If you haven't taken part before, think about joining in
the fun next year. More information and a list of this year's winners is
available at http://scidaho.org/Educate/Invent_Idaho.php

We are looking at new ways of doing fieldtrip demonstrations next year.
Several teachers have suggested ways to improve the demo offerings from
new topics to additional theater training for presenters. We're looking
over the suggestions currently and planning for next year. If you have
any ideas about what to change or keep the same, please let me know.

In February, we hired a new Outreach Coordinator for the Discovery
Center. Tori has already started offering new programs with more
becoming available each month. For an up-to-date list of the programs
she could bring to your school or community group, please visit

Lastly, we are working with two graduate students at BSU this year who,
among other things, are offering free "Meet a Scientist" sessions to
interested schools. Attached is their flyer with more information about
the program. This is a great opportunity to bring researchers to the
classroom to discuss with students what they do. After the talk, they
lead the students in a short activity to introduce the class to the
scientific method.

Thanks for the interest in the Discovery Center and we hope to see you
soon.

Cheers,
T. Woody Sobey
