To friends and to loved ones
So dear yet so far
A Thanksgiving greeting
In the way that things are
Challenges rampant in the nation we love
Not sure what will happen
When push comes to shove
A time for Thanksgiving
At this time of the year
In a climate of turmoil
And a frisson of fear
Many different labels around our dinner tables
Opinions may be shared most ardently
But despite it all, we’re living
At the time we call Thanksgiving
And there’s more connecting us than we can see
Entanglement that’s quantum
Like a cosmic kind of tom-tom
Sending thoughts of love to others cross the seas
May this poem send good wishes
As we eat, then wash the dishes
And envision the better world that is to be
