All Hyundai vehicles with a navigation system have a map and points of interest database that should be updated to better help you locate recently added roads or new points of interest. For most models prior to 2017, updates are available one time a year in the Spring. For models 2017 and newer, updates are available each year in the Spring and Fall.

After you download an area, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. If your internet connection is slow or absent, your offline maps will guide you to your destination as long as the entire route is within the offline map.

Offline maps that you downloaded on your phone or tablet must be updated before they expire. When your offline maps expire in 15 days or less, Google Maps tries to update the area automatically when you're connected to Wi-Fi.

The map updates and instructions herein apply to MY21 and newer Volkswagen vehicles except for Passat, and early production MY21 Atlas (with USB-A front ports). Late production MY21 Atlas with MIB3 (with USB-C front ports) is eligible for the map updates provided in this section. Owners of MY21 and newer ID.4 vehicles are also eligible for the updates below. Map updates are provided by a 3rd party. Volkswagen is not responsible for navigation information accuracy.

Map Installation Instructions:

I only started caching in June this year and have so far managed to chalk up 72 finds with my iPhone 3Gs. I recently took the plunge and got a Garmin Oregon 550t - it comes with the preinstalled Europe topo maps and basemaps for worldwide.

I wanted a little more map detail for the UK so I also got the 1:50k Garmin Discoverer OS maps. This came on a micro SD card that can be loaded directly into the GPS. Now....... I would also like to order an even more detailed OS map (1:25k National Parks, Peak District) as this is where I have (and will continue to do so) most of my caching. This map set also comes on an SD card.

My question: Can I somehow copy the map data of the 1:25k Peak District map over to the main storage area on the 550t and then just leave the 1:50k full UK coverage map in the SD card slot? If so can anyone explain how to do it?

Devices connecting to TomTom HOME:
When you buy a new memory card, you don't need to format the card before installing your maps. New memory cards are formatted to FAT32, which is the correct format for use with navigation devices.

** Lexus CT MoveOn Navi: We recommend that you only use original Lexus SD cards from your car dealer. They are optimised for reliability and performance when used with your navigation device. If you do use a different type of SD card you should perform frequent updates.

Make sure you've downloaded the maps of the areas you'd like to search offline. Check that you've tagged the option to use the app in offline mode. The street, city or region should be spelled correctly with no mistakes. Abbreviations might affect the app's results.

Like many folks who had previously been able to update maps to their Garmin GPS using its built-in memory, the latest maps don't fit on my Garmin Drive 50 LMT. So I figured out I needed to get a Class 10 microSHDC card. I installed a 32GB one, which is the correct maximum size allowed by this model per Garmin, in the correct slot in back of the GPS. I rebooted both the GPS and the PC.

But Garmin Express still says I don't have enough memory to update the maps and isn't offering to use the micro SD card. It's just looking at the GPS' built-in drive and says there isn't room to install the updated maps; contact support. How do I get it to use the micro SD card slot instead of its built-in drive?

Thank you, John. We used to have to format new flash cards before using them, but lately it hasn't been necessary before using them in computers, cameras, etc. They seem to come preformatted from the factory.

Still I thought your suggestion was a good idea I might have missed and followed up on it, but it didn't resolve my issue. Windows doesn't give me the opportunity to format the micro SD card in the GPS, so I took it out, inserted it in a card reader connected to the PC, formatted it to FAT32 right-clicking the card in Windows Explorer, rebooted both the PC and the GPS, and Garmin Express still doesn't offer me the opportunity to use the card, though it still recognizes that the empty 32GB micro SD card is in the GPS; Win 10 also still sees it.

Also I don't get the opportunity I see in Garmin customer support to choose a smaller regional (not national) map update on my GPS. Garmin Express is not offering me *any* options, other than contacting Customer Support. I figure I'm much better off asking for help here. Others have successfully updated this GPS to the latest maps. Something's off that I'm missing.

This may or may not help as I've had no problems having my devices using SD cards when necessary and therefore never gone through the process you're having to try now. It does seem that I've read that the option to add a SD card or install a regional map is not offered again once you've earlier selected a regional map and there are some hoops to jump through to get the Option to use a SD card offer to reappear which is what you want.

CraigW, I believe that last fall I installed the full North American map update offered then. I don't see a map version number anywhere. But the internal drive with maps only, no POIs, takes up all but 2.22 MB of the available 3.38 GB, so it's taking up about 3.1 GB, if that gives a clue to what map is loaded.

But with all the above in mind, I still get the error message when I try to update the maps: "We're unable to install the updates. The latest version of these maps have so much new information that we're not going to be able to fit it all on your device's internal memory. Please contact Product Support for help with updating your maps." And there is no offer to install a smaller map or to use a memory card for the map upgrade.

Have you considered, just for the sake of a cheap test, using a 4, 8, or 16 GB SD card and trying the map update with the different card? With luck, you have a card just sitting in a drawer somewhere or buy one if necessary. Even when a SD card is needed for a full map update, most files still go to internal Drive storage so a 4GB SD card will likely last the life of your Drive 50.

There is yet another option. You could use the clone method to update your map. The SD card could be cloned with the card connected directly to the computer or in the Drive. Be sure to follow each step exactly but that should be easy for you as you know what you're doing around computers:

...
But with all the above in mind, I still get the error message when I try to update the maps: "We're unable to install the updates. The latest version of these maps have so much new information that we're not going to be able to fit it all on your device's internal memory. Please contact Product Support for help with updating your maps."...Hmm, I do wonder about the quote above assuming it's exactly what Garmin offers as an error message. Not having a Drive 50, maybe that's just what's offered when a Drive 50 needs a SD card. But I think the error message requiring additional storage by using an SD has always in the past mentioned SD cards specifically. I wonder if your error message without the standard "get an SD card and try again" is telling us something else is going on besides the lack of needed free storage space.
