Dear Afeefa,

As-salaam `alaykum wa rahmatu Llahi wa barakatuhu!

Please help us spread the word about our 7th annual multifaith "Farm the Land, Grow the Spirit" Peacemaking Summer Institute for Young Adults, Tues. May 31 - Sun. Aug. 7, 2016.  We are now seeking online applications at www.stonypointcenter.org/SummerInstitute

The Stony Point Center Summer Institute is seeking Jewish, Christian, and Muslim young adults, ages 19-29, who are grounded in their religious tradition, serious about spirituality and the state of the planet, and excited by social activism in a multireligious context.

We offer a rich opportunity to live in a supportive community with peers from different faiths and with similar interests. The community they form will be "nested" in the larger multifaith Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center which is an intentional, residential community of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian volunteers who help run Stony Point Center and engage in hospitality, study, and nonviolence/social justice activism. Together we will study and share the three Abrahamic traditions, what they teach about social activism, nonviolence, and justice, and apply them to personal and social transformation as we strengthen our relationship to the earth.

This year the Institute will include the Muslim observance of Ramadan and the Jewish observance of Shavuot. Institute students will have the opportunity both to learn and to share in these experiences, while having the opportunity to practice and share their traditions as well. The Institute will be divided into two sessions. Students can attend one or both, but are encouraged to come for both.

Session 1, from May 31 - July 3, includes the observance of Ramadan. It will focus on the strong thread of peace and nonviolence that runs through Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.  Students will use what they learn to explore the social justice issues of immigration, gender and sexuality, race and mass incarceration, and religious conflict and peace building.

Session 2, from July 10 - August 7, will focus on what the three Abrahamic traditions, and some Indigenous faith traditions, have to say about caring for the earth.  During this session, students will explore the areas of environmental justice, climate change, and food justice.

All students are welcome to stay the week in between to celebrate Eid (the end of Ramadan), as well as the July 4th holiday.  It will be a week of fun, rest and relaxation.

Please see our website for more details, including a growing list of scholars/teachers/activists who will be coming to teach.  The Summer Institute is free to those who are accepted. Apply online at: www.stonypointcenter.org/SummerInstitute.  The application deadline is February 15, 2016 and space is limited!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!  Thank you for your help in spreading the word!

Happy New Year,

Rabia
