Sorry folks but things are crazy at Capitol so I’ve been a little tardy. The Economic Developmet bill was passed yesterday by the House. It was passed by Senate the day before. It contained the funding for business mitigation as well as the language. I indicated previously that the DEED folks – mark Loftus – are OK with it but think that staffing & setting up program will eat up a good portion of the funds. The Governor has three days to veto bill or line item veto potions of the bill. He could eliminate the money but language would be hard. The three days work this way – now Sat or Sun & day it is presented – given to Gov doe not count. He probably has until next Monday.
I’d suggest some thank you’s & I’d make them personal – note cards – be sent to Torres-Rey – Champion as your lead supporters. I’d also suggest a thank you to Metzen & Clark who were on conference committee.
Torres- Rey approached me yesterday indicating that she had similar language in transportation bill & Met Council had ‘transit’ stripped out in conference. They continue to believe it is going to increase their CEI & no one has been able to convince them otherwise. They may make same move on this bill as well. This would eliminate University Avenue from being eligible. I’ll see what I can do.

Linda – the bill passed with the good language in it. Thank you for UABA’s work on it, and congratulations to Julien and Sen. Patricia Torres Ray for building support.
We would HIGHLY appreciate it if you give U7 and Julien credit for working hard on this, as we hired his firm to work on this and work on it he did, along with myself and other U7 members, Iric N. of MCCD in particular. Acknowledging U7 effort on this to your members and publicly, along with taking credit for the hard work UABA put in on this, and of course the bill’s sponsors and supporters, is key to building a functioning partnership. Thanks.

julian,
What happened yesterday with biz mit? UABA's Steering Com. is meeting tomorrow and it would be great to update them.
thanks, Linda Winsor
Thanks for kind words Linda. As I thought – bonding bill which has specific limitations on how it can be used – public ownership & capital so not available for the mitigation you are thinking about. I’d say only way toget state funds would be for a direct state appropriation which I believe is real unlikely considering budget situation. I think the guy from Seattle gave you the best idea – funds from city or county & neither of them are flush right now. We can think a bit more about it.
