Machine Listening Group at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences is looking for candidates at doctoral and postdoctoral levels. The group is doing research on computational methods for the analysis and processing of soundscapes, using deep learning for sound event classification and detection, sound localization, and audio captioning.
Job description
The main research topics for the positions to be filled are Sound event detection and classification and Automatic audio captioning. For sound event detection, different tasks to be studied include for example use of weak and noisy labels, feature learning, and transfer learning. For audio captioning, tasks to be studied include use of textual labels for grounding the captioning process, annotation and subjective evaluations with different segments of users.

Doctoral Researcher positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of 2 years, with a possibility to be extended up to 4 years. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow position will be filled for a fixed-term period of 2 years.
The planned starting date is January 2022 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
The salary will be based on the job requirements and the employee's performance following the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on the job demand levels 2-4 and for Postdoctoral Research Fellow on levels 5-6. A typical starting salary for a Doctoral Researcher is around 2400€ per month and for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow around 3400€ per month.
