The job will involve designing and implementing web pages which have been
contracted to us by our sales staff. No selling is involved. Experience
in making web pages is a must! We will want to see examples of your work.
The job will also involve some Internet work (applying for domain names,
setting up new accounts), as well as providing technical support for
Smartnet customers who are writing their own web pages. Training will be
given for these tasks.
Our servers are entirely Unix based, so Unix experience is a plus. Web
page design and programming must be done in the Windows 3.1 or Windows 95
environments.
Starting salary will be around $20K/year ($10/hour). If you are
interested, or know someone who might be interested in this position,
please call Smartnet at 410-792-4555 or 301-470-3400 MF 9-5, and ask for
Paul. Resumes may be faxed to 410-792-4571, or E-mailed to
"ad...@smart.net".
Below are notes of what you really are asking for and the * items are
quotes form your posting.
Web HTML work (doesn't sound like programming) is one area of expertise
you ask for.
* "Experience in making web pages is a must! We will want to see
examples of your work."
UNIX Admin and secretarial work is another area of expertise.
* "The job will also involve some Internet work (applying for domain names,
setting up new accounts)..."
Customer Service / Help Desk / Training and these are other area of
expertise.
* "... providing technical support for Smartnet customers who are writing
their own web pages."
AND HERE IS THE BIG ONE!
You're asking for a miracle
* Starting salary will be around $20K/year ($10/hour).
Maybe you should think about an intern or student employment.
That is a lot to ask for such a little salary! Especially when your add
didn't sound like you would work with a novice with the drive to
succeed!
Best of luck!
Dwight
It doesn't take a computer programmer with an advanced degree to make web
pages, nor did I specify I required one in my ad. There are many
self-taught people who are capable of making very sophisticated web pages.

True, it doesn't take a sophisticated programmer to weave some fancy web
pages, but nevertheless, for 20k/year, you'll only attract the
desperates, or the incompetents.
Accomplished webweavers nowadays are artists skilled in html/cgi coding,
graphics and photography, design and layout, and are willing to venture
into what lies ahead: vrml, java, etc.
But not for $20k/year.

I am a student over at Catonsville Community College, taught myself HTML,
taught myself C, teaching myself JAVA, and I taught myself a bit of PERL.
I'm currently a waiter at a restaraunt whose clientel think the min. tipping
rate is 10% (it's 15%). I'd kill to have this job, regardless of what's
involved (anything with computers is OK by me).
