Hi team!

For action week DC Reads has put together a few events that involve our tutees and so there are some materials that are on our office door that should be taken out with you during program this week and returned ASAP:

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY CAMPUS VISIT: APPLICATIONS

We will be hosting a few of our tutees on a campus visit as a way of exposing them to college life. Events include sitting in on a class, lunch at Leo's, learning about extracurricular activities, a campus tour, and reflection time. We are looking for some of our older tutees (think like seventh grade and above) who are interested in coming. If you have a few tutees who you think would be a good fit pick up an application and have them/help them fill it out. Attached to the applications are also permission slips. Tutees will be selected from the applicant pool.

ACTION WEEK CREATIVE WRITING EXHIBIT:

Next Wednesday (4/17) we will be hosting a Action Week Creative Writing Exhibit in Midnight Mug from 7-8 pm. We have written a creative writing prompt that we need you all to incorporate into your lesson plans for this week. We have given you all guidelines on how to work with your tutee on this prompt in order to make the writing process easier. At the event next week we will have a speaker from 826 Washington D.C, a group focused on on improving children's writing skills within the district, who will speak about the importance of presenting student's work. Afterwards, we will invite as many tutors as possible to read their student's work to the audience. It is extremely important that you turn in a hardcopy (edited as much as possible) of the poem, creative piece etc. to your coordinator by this Friday. We apologize for the short notification but think this a great experience for both our tutees and for all of you as well. If you have any questions about the event or already know you would like to be apart of the reading please email le...@georgetown.edu or jlh...@georgetown.edu. Thank you so much for all of your help and we look forward to reading what you and your tutee have worked on!

dcsp love to infinity and beyond,
ale
