Position:  Membership Assistant (P/T)

The American Anthropological Association, the world’s largest scholarly and professional organization of anthropologists, seeks a detailed-oriented, energetic, and technology savvy individual to serve as our Membership Assistant in this part-time position. In this role, you will perform a variety of administrative tasks supporting membership development and member services efforts. This is a flexible part-time position, working 20-hours a week with a minimum of two days in the office based on the current remote work policy.  

To qualify for this position, you should have previous membership or customer service experience, be able to multitask and prioritize, and have excellent office, and written and verbal communication skills.

Location: Arlington, VA (Some remote work available). 

Reports to: Manager, Membership Development and Assistant Manager, Membership Development 

This position is primarily concerned with supporting membership development, member services, membership data administration, directory development, and will primarily interact with internal staff and members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with telephone, email, and mail inquiries from members and non-members: and assist members and potential members by responding within the required time objective inquiries, forwarding specific inquires to other departments as needed, and tagging emails to ensure proper internal communication between the membership team
  2. Generate monthly AAA membership and section status reports
  3. Prepare data files for the new and renewing member packets monthly mailing, and individual invoice mailing
  4. Assist with data report generation and data integrity for recruitment and retention campaigns.
  5. Assist in the maintenance of the membership database including updating records and data clean-up project
  6. Process various memberships applications and make reminder phone calls to DSP Partners
  7. Complete other duties to support the Membership Department efforts to meet annual goals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: AA in Business, Social Sciences and/or related or work experience in membership associations.
  • Experience: 1 -2 years of experience with association membership administration.
  • Experience in marketing and is a plus. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook are required).
  • Knowledge of membership associations and volunteer management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to successfully multi-task.
  • Analytical skills and attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to (inside and outside) constituents are required.
  • A commitment to excellence in all areas of responsibility is expected.
