I know it is long overdue for us to have a users group meeting. Anyone want to step up and volunteer a place and negotiate a time?

All,
I would like to offer the University of Maryland, College Park, as a possible location.  If we have a meeting in January, prior to the start of classes (Wednesday, January 23), it will be less hassle for people to come to campus. We can't offer free parking, but we can offer free shuttle service from the College Park metro, and, of course, meeting space.

January 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, or 22 are all possibilities that work well with us, if people are amenable to having a meeting here.

If so, let me know, and perhaps I can start a poll of some kind to narrow down the date.

Regards,
Jennie Knies

Thanks for the hosting offer, Jennie. I think it is a great idea to
get back together in January... and long over due. Ideally we can get
this meeting on everyone's calendar as early as possible.
I went ahead and created a poll.
All, please indicate which dates may work best for you. As usual, I
suspect the meeting will be a single, full-day event.

ar Andrew,

Thanks for setting up the Doodle. I'll give everyone until November 26 to

respond, and then we can pick a date.  I'm also investigating whether or not we'll be able to provide WebEx for the meeting. We are just now starting to utilize such modern tools... at minimum we would be able to provide Skype and a share screen, but I'll see if we can do better than that.

I've only attend one of these meetings, and that was several years ago and

only a half day.  Does the host also provide an agenda? Are the meetings

usually structured with presentations, or more free-flowing? I'm not sure

what, if anything, we would be able to provide in terms of refreshments,

etc., but there is plenty of food around if we need to take a lunch break,

and I'll investigate further.  If someone who has been involved with a few

meetings can jump in and help out with some of the logistics, I'd

appreciate it!

Hi Jennie,

I have been the de facto organizer of these, along with Andrew, and we don't otherwise have a governance structure. I am happy to work with you to put together an agenda. I have two things to offer myself. Perhaps people who have information that they would like to share about what they are doing with Fedora could send an email to this list so that we can see what we have to work with.

I would like to talk to the group about the Fedora Futures project that is just beginning. As a community group working with DuraSpace we are pulling together resources to do a major renovation of the Fedora codebase over three years. I am active in that group, so it would be good to get a conversation going about it at this meeting.

I would also like to show the Sidora interface that we have developed on top of Islandora and Fedora to support research data management to be done by the researchers themselves. I presented this project conceptually at the last meeting, but now I have a working system that is being used by an archaeology project that I would like to show.

Thanks Thorny!

To help things along (I hope), I've put together a Google doc for agenda items. Anyone should be able to add them there, and then we can figure out how to best arrange them, timewise, etc. How does that sound?
