I am thinking of going the private instruction route (see email attached below). If we can find 3 people it would cost the same. There would be no interpreter, but I think I'd be okay with that.

The reason for this is because it'd cost $1,600 for Earth Treks to hire an interpreting team for 8 hours.

Who else is interested?

We can schedule this for whenever is convenient for us. I was thinking late May or early June.

Derek

Hi Derek,

Thanks for your inquiry.  We’d love you and your group in a class, but I’d like to look for some creative solutions on how best to make that happen.  At market rates, a full day class like that for an interpreter would result in our taking a substantial loss.  I have a couple thoughts….

·        do you happen to have any recommendations for an interpreter who may be able to work the day at a rate that could be workable?
o   Potentially someone who is interested in climbing outdoors themselves and may be interested in trading for courses?
·        Clearly an ASL interpreter would be preferable, but would you consider a small private class with one of our guides.  Usually we teach those public classes at a 6:1 ratio and could have up to 12 students.  We could do a private class for just the three of you for the same individual price, and being private that staff person could better tailor their teaching style to your group.  They could better use visual aids and the small ratio would provide more attention per person to help overcome communication gaps.  You’d also have flexibility on when/where the class would be run, including a weekday if that was desirable.

Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks,

I am with a group of deaf climbers (3 or possibly more) who would like to ask for an ASL interpreter for one of the Top Rope Systems Course I offerings in June. Would ET be able and willing to provide one?
