Hi DC-Area Nature Friends,
This month’s iNaturalist Night presentation will focus on bonus species! What the heck is a bonus species? That’s what we call an infrequently observed species that is often found in association with a commonly observed species. A couple of examples are Mountain Laurel Leaf Spot and Green Beetle Hanger.
Knowing about bonus species is fun because it can open our eyes to more detail in the natural world, and it confirms that the deeper we look, the more we see. We’ll discuss fungi, common leafminers, common galls, lace bugs, powdery mildews and more. Bring your own favorite examples! Get ready to look closer with us and see common finds with new eyes!
