Support for dotNet core or later?

Does anyone know if there are plans/roadmap for migrating to dotNet core or later so that it can run cross platform, specifically linux?
TLDR version: I have many clients abandoning win agents for build/deploy but as of now we keep a win build server lying around just for dbup. It would be wonderful to jsut run itin a linux container like everythign else.
Just currious is a net upgrade is in planning, or if it will remain a win-tied tool.
