Hi Everyone,

Here are the meeting minutes from Wednesday, 7/21.

Phone Conference Attendees: Vijay, Jenney, Dick and Kenny (All through access # of 702-473-3463, Pass Code 633853)
Missed: Frank.

1. Frank (sent his update through email before the conference. thanks!):
   (1) was still working on repairing bathrooms. Process is going slow.
   (2) was waiting for paperwork to clear for the security job (Yah Ho!!) and need to take the security class.
   (3) sent his IT resume and cover letter to Fiona where she's helping.
   (4) Received a call from HR Kaiser Permanente for an interview. The position is for an Environmental Services Supervisor at Santa Teresa in San Jose. The interview is on Tuesday the
27th. (FYI: he has over 3 years experience in Environmental Services. Sent an email to his former supervisor in the Environmental Services Dept. at Kaiser and asked for advice
for this position and ended with no response. Then, sent same email to his HR recruiter friend, also at Kaiser. She responded with advice and encouragement.)
In general, Frank was very busy all means doing house hold work fixing something crucial using his experience and skills, in job hunt he is proceeding to next level before accepting the offer he needs to complete a formal training. Fionna who got a job as an HR offered/extended him an opening.

2. Vijay had some encouraging results over the last week for his next career. He initiated a request to find out more about his might-be-new-position at FormFactor from Kenny who was a late member of. The two agreed to go off line and to talk over the phone for information exchange (they already did so at the time of writing).

3. Dick said that this was not the first time he was laid off from Lockheed. When he was laid off back in July of 1993 and took advantage of NOVA’s retraining program and attended Foothill Community College for one year paid by NOVA and in that one year managed to complete the requirements for a 2 year AA degree in Network Engineering and that the best part of this program was that he signed up for a Internship class in which Foothill sent him to Quantum Electronics as a UNIX/Networking Engineering for the Spring semester and that Quantum retained him beyond the spring semester as a Intern and didn’t terminate his employment until September of 1994. He also mentioned that many of his colleagues that also got laid off with him in 1993 who didn’t take advantage of NOVA’s retraining program never did get back to jobs in their career as he did, so he encourage all to take advantage of the One Stop retraining program, which now is entered by taking a seminar called “Career Exploration”.

Dick also mentioned that he has spent the vast majority of his career in major Corporations like General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin and that he didn’t like the direction our countries major Corporations were going in establishing companies within the Corporation in which all the employees held Corporate jobs that were paid out of overhead funds and that when Lockheed Martin established such a company, called Enterprise Business Solutions, he was arbitrarily transferred into this new company and felt that he ceased being an employee identified as Dick Brezovec, rather, an employee identified as a number!  He also said this was happening throughout Corporate America and that as a result of this he was more interested in going back to work for smaller family type companies, where all the employees are known by their given name, rather than a number.

4. Kenny came back from a near two week vacation only a week ago. He had missed quite a few fast track meetings, including the one on 7/14, which he really shouldn't, therefore he was sorry about. He was busy getting his resume finalized during the last week. After talking with his mentor in DBM, he needed to revise his resume in various way to fit into concurrent format and wording style so it will look 'powerful'. Other than the resume, he tried to connect to more people in his LinkedIn. The connected number grew from 39 at the beginning of the DBM program to 82 by Wednesday. He planned to post his resume to the public by the end of the week to 'officially' start his job searching.
Note: Kenny will travel to the east coast states the entire next week from 7/25 to 7/30. He's going to miss the immediate next phone meeting.

5. Jenney has served as our team coordinator well to keep our ball rolling. (Thank you, Jenney!)

6. Ronald Coll -- a new member. Per request of Dick, please add Ronald Coll to our dbm-fast-track-team group.  Ron is a colleague of Disk which got laid off same time with Disk from Lockheed Martin. Ron’s email address is: r_c...@yahoo.com  Welcome, Ron!
That's all for this week, folks. Thanks go to everyone for sharing and inputs of nice ideas. Wish everybody a happy and fruitful week to come.

Thanks,

Kenny (Minutes writer of the week)
