Hello everyone,
I was expecting to report the winners of the DBF 2012 competition this past weekend and discuss their designs. However, the competition was abruptly canceled Sunday morning as a result of tornado damage from Saturday night (Wichita is in Tornado Alley). So while it was difficult for us to get over the fact that we were disqualified from the competition this year, I imagine that hundreds of other students from the 60+ teams in Wichita are also quite disappointed. It seems that on many levels, AIAA DBF was a failure this year.
As for our team, we have nearly completed the final aircraft and plan to maiden it on
Thursday at 3pm. If that maiden flight goes well, we will prepare to fly our missions out this weekend, weather permitting. Further, we will be holding a formal meeting next
Monday in 103 Talbot at 6pm to discuss the future of our team. I will invite Prof. Selig & D'Urso to this meeting so they can share their comments, as well. For those who will be around in the future or are just interested, please take a look at the rules document of the SAE Aero Design competition, which we are very seriously considering participating in next year, as an alternative to AIAA Design/Build/Fly.
