Hi, I've been struggling with a problem the last couple of days, now hoping
that someone at the news-group migth be able to help !
I am building an executable, but I am unable to run it; the following
errormessage appears: ' Cannot initialize with different configuration
file' --- So when I cklick the 'OK' button the 'Fix' window appears,
prompting 'Database Engine Error: Cannot find Engine configuration file'
This is a puzzle to me. What is missing ? I have Alias, .cfg, .ini files
etc. The application runs smooth, but my .exe file does not. Any ideas ?

Arne

Do you have more then one .cfg file? Perhaps one that is in the same
directory as the .exe?

I'm not sure what the situation is here other then the obvious
statement that the BDE can't find the proper .cfg file. It could be
that you have more then one or you have a different file with the same
extension that the BDE doesn't understand.

Hi Tim, thanks for replying ! In the folder that contains the Borland BDE
there are two .cfg files, IDAPI.cfg and 'myapp.cfg' -- they are basicly the
same. I have also a copy of 'myapp.cfg' in the same folder as the .exe file.
My .ini file is refering to the correct .cfg file. (incl. path)
I have tried removing the alias database, reinstalled it, setting up the
configuration file a new, but I still get the same error message/'fix'
window; telling me that the database Engine cannot initialize with different
config.file, and that the database Engine cannot the configuration file. (I
gather that this means the .cfg file ) But why can't it be found ? It is in
both the BDE folder, and in my application folder !
I'm using dB2K 0.4 (build 1661) for my application.
But I also have DBASE Plus installed on my computer.
Regards Arne

You can only use _1_ .cfg file the same time. So if your app is open
with myapp.cfg as config, you won't be able to use a different BDE app
(or dBase itself) with a different .cfg the same time. This is also
valid for other BDE-using apps, like Delphi, CBuilder etc.

Hi Romain,
does what you say means that I can have only one .cfg file in the
'Borland\BDE' folder ?
'Myapp.cfg' has the same name as my application. The other .cfg file is the
original .cfg file,; IDAPI.CFG
Maybe I should use this as is - don't bother to change name and so on ?

No, as Romain mentioned it means that you can use only _one_ cfg file (its
name is irrelevant) at the very _same_ time for _all_ applications applying
BDE (and that's including dBASE IDE).

Thanks Marco, but I still don't get it. I have moved the other .cfg file,
the one and only .cfg are my Idapi.cfg, with my recent BDE setup. I still
get the error message.
My ini file looks like this;
[CommandSettings]
LDRIVER=DB865NO0
[OnOffCommandSettings]
LDCHECK=OFF
BELL=OFF
TALK=OFF
[Toolbars]
Standard=1
StandardFloat=0
StandardStyle=0
StandardPosition=42 102 81 133
[CommandWindow]
Open=1
Maximized=0
Minimized=1
[Directories]
0=C:\PROVDATA2001
Current=0
[Database]
Name=Provdata2001
[IDAPI]
CONFIGFILE01=IDAPI.CFG
C:\PROVDATA2001\PROVDATA2001.INI
C:\PROGRAMFILER\FELLESFILER\BORLAND\BDE\IDAPI.CFG
[ReportViewer]
Position=98 22 575 379

Could this problem have something to do with fact that I also have dBASE
Plus installed on my computer ?
(my application is built using dB2K, 0.4 (build 1661)

Delete the whole IDAPI section shown above...

No, it just means that your can only _use_ _One_ of them at a time.

Then when your app is running, dBASE won't start and vice-versa.

Good advice. ;-)
