I currently have Visual Dbase 7.0 running on Windows 2000 Professional. I
am getting a new computer soon that will have Windows XP. Will I have
problems with installing or running Visual Dbase 7 on Windows XP?

Will programs that have been written and compiled using Visual Dbase 7
install and run on a Windows XP machine? I have a system that I distribute
to a wide variety of governmental units. I have had some users call me and
tell me that when they install it and then try to run it, they get an error
and it will not run the program. I think the error was "VDB7RUN.EXE has
generated errors" or something like that. They said they were using Windows
XP. I didn't know if the reason it would not run was related to XP or some
other problem. I have installed my compiled program on a notebook running
Windows XP and it installed and worked fine for me.

Thank you for any information or help you can give me.

There's no reason you should that I'm aware of. (However on the "plug"
side of things, you really ought to upgrade to a more stable and more
robust version of dBASE ... Visual dBASE 7.0 is very buggy and crash
prone ...)

I think I am going to discuss upgrading with my supervisor. It probably
depends on the budget. :)
So you don't know what would cause someone on XP to get an error message
when they are trying to run a program that I compiled using Dbase 7? Is it
just something about the way they have their machine configured? Is there
something I could tell them to check? Thanks.

Understandable.

Nope ... don't know of anything specific. Can you tell me what the
error is? Check to see how much RAM that they have. If they have over
256Meg (the number might be smaller, but I think this was the problem
number) then you will have to upgrade, or they will have to remove
some RAM from their machine.

Maybe they need to be logged on with Administrator rights to install the
program.
