Hi, all. I've been reading this very interesting book
called The Ghost by Danielle Steele. It's about this fellow
named Charlie Waterston, who was divorced and had known this
lady in England who had once been his wife, but left him for
another man who was older than them both, and he was
transferred to New York. Then he was in the house of this
old lady named Gladys Palmer, and the house had once been in
possession of Sarah Ferguson, an Englishwoman who lived in
the 1700s, and who left England because her husband Edward
was abominably cruel to her. He beat up on her regularly,
forced her to be with child, and threatened her with death
if she didn't bring a son into the world as an heir to him.
So she left England on a small ship called the Concord and
settled down in Deerfield, Massachusettes, where she met a
French fellow named named Francois De Bellerin. At first
Francois disapproved of her being there and said she should
return to England, but she had no intention of doing so, and
she told him about how it was with her husband. Charlie had
seen Sarah's ghost on Christmas Eve after he moved into the
house, but he wasn't sure if she really had been there.
Then he heard movements going on in the attic of the house
and went to investigate and found a small trunk in a wall
alcove with her diaries in it and started reading them.
They were written about her in the third person narrative.
After reading about how she settled down and got acquainted
with Francois, he was called on the phone by his ex-wife
Carole, who said she and this other fellow named Simon were
going to be married in June. They had a heated argument
about the whole thing and they slighted each other quite a
bit. Then he went and told Francesca Vironet, who had once
been married to a Frenchman, but he had love affairs with
other women behind her back and then had two little
children. So she filed for divorce. I stopped where they
were talking about their marital problems to to ach other.
At first when Charlie met Francesca in this library, she was
hostile and cold. She had a little daughter named Monique.
Charlie met the little girl several times and got acquainted
with her. Anyway, I'm in the third volume of this book.

This book sounds fascinating to read! I have finished all 5 series of “Game of Thrones” last November!
Happy reading

Hi, there. Thanks for your comments, Pier. After his
association with FRANCESCA after his heartbreaking
conversation with Carole, Charlie got together with her and
her daughter Monique at a restaurant, and invited them to go
on a skiing trip with him. When he returned home to the
house, he fancied he heard someone walking up on the second
floor of the house, and then in the middle of the night he
heard a sound, but if it was the ghost of Sarah Ferguson, he
didn't see her. The book doesn't say if he saw her ghost
again. He did on the night of Christmas Eve. Gladys
Palmer, had also seen her.
