1Find an old camcorder on eBay or craigslist that support the type of tapes you have. This will then allow you to hook the camcorder up to either your television (for viewing) or your computer (for capturing/editing)

Hey there, unfortunately there is no such thing as an adapter from 8mm to VHS. The technology is too different for them to be cross compatible. Your best bet is to look for an old camcorder or video8 deck. good luck!

Dear Sir,

I was playing my old sanyo camcorder 8mm video tapes. Lots of interference but kept playing until it corrected itself with no interference. However the sound is not good and cannot hear the voices very well. I attached a loudspeaker to camcorder but no improvement. The camcorder could in time correct itself vis a vis the sound but doubt it. Watching ur video looks like there is no solution. Maybe to find another similar camcorder is the next possible solution and to ask around who has one that I could borrow.

regards

Nick

The video signal needs to be digitised to transfer it to your computer to edit and transfer to DVD. The only way to do this yourself is to buy an old PAL Video 8 camera on eBay - most of these have the capability of converting to DV format and transferring to your computer via an iLink cable. If you can only get one with composite video output you will need a USB video capture device to digitise the video signal.

Long time ago, i saw a mechanical adapter on amazon, from Video 8 tape to VHS tape, because it is only mechanical device, i guess will be reasonable price (sorry i cannot remember its link, but google it)

the poster wants to move forward not backwards!!, the "device you refer to is simply a full sized video cartridge that has been converted to accept a video 8 tape, this opens the tape up inside the cartridge to allow it to play in a video player.

BTW, i was facing the same problem as the poster, this was long time ago when i decided to backup all our family movies to DVDs, there is no way to read the data recorded on Video 8 magnetic tape by eyes:smileylaugh: - unless you get a good magnifier , so i look for the easiest way to do it, at that time i found the Video 8> VHS adaptor (Cartridge) is the best way.......DONE and i was satisfied with the results

It still works well - although the resolution of 350,000 pixels is a bit low by modern standards. The batteries are dead but it came with a mains AC Adapter so it can be used as a Video 8 VCR. Still "as new" in its custom aluminium case.

To connect a Sony Video8 camcorder to a computer, you will need a video capture device that can convert the analog signal from the camcorder to a digital signal that can be recognized by the computer. You can use a USB video capture device or a FireWire (IEEE 1394) video capture device, depending on the type of connection your camcorder supports.

First, connect the video capture device to your computer using the appropriate cable (USB or FireWire). Then, connect the camcorder to the video capture device using the appropriate cable (usually an RCA or S-Video cable). Turn on the camcorder and set it to playback mode. Launch your video capture software on the computer and select the appropriate input source (USB or FireWire). You should now be able to capture the video from your Sony Video8 camcorder onto your computer.

Note that some older Sony Video8 camcorders may require a special adapter to connect to a video capture device. Check the documentation for your camcorder to determine if you need any additional equipment.

The Sony Video8 camcorder was first introduced in 1985 and was one of the first camcorders to use 8mm tape. It was a popular choice for home video recording in the 1980s and 1990s. The Video8 format was later replaced by Hi8 and Digital8 formats, which offered better video quality.

The Video8 camcorder was a compact and portable device that allowed users to record and playback video on the same device. It featured a built-in microphone and speaker, as well as a zoom lens and manual focus control. Some models also had a built-in light for low-light recording.

Today, the Video8 camcorder is considered outdated technology and is no longer widely used. However, some people still have old Video8 tapes that they want to transfer to digital format. This can be done by connecting the camcorder to a computer using a FireWire cable and capturing the video using video editing software.

Connecting a Sony Video8 camcorder to a computer can be done in a few different ways, depending on the available ports and cables. One common method is to use a USB cable to transfer the video footage from the camcorder to the computer.

It's important to note that some older Sony Video8 camcorders may not have a USB port. In this case, a FireWire or analog video capture card may be needed to transfer the footage to the computer. Additionally, some newer computers may not have a USB port, in which case an adapter or hub may be necessary.

Connecting Video8 Camcorder to Computer via Firewire is the best way to transfer video footage from your camcorder to your computer. This method is still relevant today, even though Firewire ports are becoming less common on newer computers. If your computer doesn't have a Firewire port, you can purchase a Firewire to USB adapter.

It's important to note that not all video editing software will recognize your camcorder automatically. You may need to install drivers or software specific to your camcorder to enable your computer to recognize it.

In conclusion, connecting your Sony Video8 camcorder to your computer via Firewire is still a viable option for transferring video footage. If your computer doesn't have a Firewire port, you can purchase a Firewire to USB adapter. Just make sure to follow the steps carefully and ensure that your video editing software recognizes your camcorder.

It's important to note that some newer computers may not have FireWire ports. In this case, you may need to purchase a FireWire to USB adapter to connect your camcorder to your computer. Additionally, some newer operating systems may not support Video8 camcorders, so it's important to check compatibility before attempting to connect your camcorder to your computer.

I was in the middle of this a few months ago. The only thing that will work are multiple Apple adapters--USB C/thunderbolt cable from the thunderbolt/usbc port on the MacBook Pro to a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter then a thunderbolt 2 to firewire adapter. This was a useful youtube video. =RE-b5TvwISk.
