Guys,

I bought one of the Elf-alikes, i.e. very cheap Chinese clone of an Elf , no carbon D-box, but it’s still strong enough for all but the hardest throwers

Anywho, It flys great!

Here is a video I made yesterday after an early morning flying session

http://youtu.be/o-1qo57U9PY

The flying session was done at 7:30 in the morning, mostly so I would not catch a big thermal and I could set up a tripod and keep the model in camera view.  I did however catch a small gopher fart on one of the flights for a flight of about 1-1/2 minutes in the video, it was fun

But I flew it the day before in relatively high winds in mid afternoon where the thermals were popping,  and skye’d it out 3 times, several other 5 plus minute flights too J  Before I knew it over an hour time had elapsed, a good time!

so, next time someone asks me for a good cheap entry level HLG, this is my answer

Cost was $135 for everything, including Chinese clone of AR6110E, Rhino 360 mAh 2S LiPo,, servos (which come preinstalled with all pushrods in place) and an ESC I tossed in to step down the 2S LiPo.  But realistically I had to work hard to get the stuff down to that price, combined shipping with other stuff, etc, but a normal effort purchasing just the stuff needed would probably be in the $150 range, still a bargain!

I got my airframe from Hobby King, there this plane is called the Mini DLG, $118 with servos installed shipped.  If you buy from Hobby King, they are currently only available from the International Warehouse in Hong Kong, they are $88 plus $42 shipping which is $130.  But if you add an item that is 11 grams the shopping goes down to $37, so the cost of a single is then $125    LOL

To get the price down to $118 shipped from Hobby King, I ordered a few other things to fill up the weight allotment for that shipping weight category, so my cost for shipping was actually even less for the Mini DLG bringing the cost to the $118 shipped for the Mini DLG.

There are seemingly a host of other Chinese shops selling this same model, under different names, for similar pricing.  Currently in my opinion, the best deal is one such shop has a 4-pack of these, each with an extra spare nose pod and servos, for $477.89 or $$119,46 (again these have an extra nose pod)   Though I can not personally speak for this company as I have never ordered from them

This company also sells replacement wings, tail booms, tail surfaces too   Singles with servos and the extra nose pod from this same company are $143.63 shipped

Six of one, half doze of another

Bottom line, it’s available from multiple sources

If by chance they show up at Toledo for prices cheaper than the above, I would recommend snagging one

Also, here is the RC Groups discussion thread on this model, here it is called the Unique Models RC DLG among other things. This thread had both the older version and the upgraded version mixed in, the upgraded version has a removable bolt on nose pod.  I have the upgraded version
