His Guys,

Just an interim report on the subject of building timer boards for MOSS and DARTS to use in F5J contests.

A key component of any timer board is an item built by Chris Bajorek - a Gliderscore Display Interface circuit board.
I called Chris recently to ask about buying a few of those boards. I ask for three boards plus at least two spares.
Unfortunately Chris only has parts for two boards.

These boards use custom-programmed chips that Chris made many of years age.
The computer that Chris used to program those chips has been ‘decommissioned’ - i.e. no longer available.

I don’t know if the LED display panels are still available but they too are old technology.

Here’s a little bit of history:
The interface between the computer running Gliderscore and the timer board is RS-232 which dates to 1960 !

In my opinion, the most desirable timer board (bright, color display panels) is no longer available.

In a perfect world, someone would design a new timer board with modern interfaces and modern components.

That’s something to think about during this building season.

Regards,

Jay Watkins

Are there any other options for these timer boards? What do other clubs use?

Contact Garry Ogilvie, I think they bought a board from Mickey Nowell in Florida that uses gas station style LED’s very bright and easy to read. Marc

Perhaps we could get some clock kits that run off ardu processor boards?

Garry's phone is 865-360-9072, email is gogil...@gmail.com. Mickey Nowell is 407-924-6802 and email mickeys...@gmail.com. Both very nice guys and technically advanced. Marc

I thought you indicated that Chris had parts for two more boards. If you can get them that would be good.  Louisville clocks use Chris board and mine do. If you use Mickies they won’t be compatible.  Not sure but I think quite a bit more expensive. Only one board needed per  clock.  They should never need replacing.    The LED boards are available and reasonably priced. Way too much work to buy empty boards and solder LEDs to them.  My .02 Barry.

Barry,
I told Ed about the limited supply.
Seems to me he should get them for spares.
