We had a guest from picklocks.com at the meeting tonight.  They run a lick picking seminar periodically and and want to know if Dayton Diode members are interested in taking the seminar.  The seminar costs $25 (or $40 with dvd and wallet lock pick) for Dayton Diode members, a little more for non-members.  We need a minimum of 5 participants to organize a seminar.  Can I get a "show of hands" for who all would sign up for the seminar?

Later,

During the meeting I checked the transaction fee for collecting the payments through meetup: $1.05 on a $26.00 rsvp (the payments can go through either paypal or amazon).

That sounds pretty reasonable.

Angus,

We still need to work out the logistics, but I thought it would be good to make sure we had about enough takers before we did that.  I think you make 4 interested members, out of a class of 5 minimum, which looks like enough to move things ahead.  I'm sure we can pick up at least one more member or maybe some non-members to round out the class.

I'll keep folks posted on the logistics,

Yeah I would be interested too. Is this being hosted at Diode? Are we posting this on Meetup?

Yes it will be at Dayton Diode, and yes the plan is to advertise the event on Meetup, the Google Group, the Blog, and anywhere else we can think of, once we get a date/time worked out.

So does Diode generate any funds from the nonmembers that sign up?

Yeah, Dayton Diode making a little bit of money from the difference in member and non-member prices was the thing that drove the idea of having different prices (it is something many other spaces do).  Of course, we still need to determine what the appropriate difference in price for members and non-members.

And possibly negotiate a bit with our lock-picking friends on the
split since we're front-loading some sweat equity on the marketing
front.

Hey guys,

I have some more news on the lock picking class.  The guys running the class have proposed Sunday May 27 for the class.  That seems far enough out that we can advertise it effectively.  Are those that are interested in taking the class available that day?

Also, is there anyone who can spearhead this project from here forward?  I am swamped with work and school, so it would be better if I got out of the loop on this.

Thanks,

 -J
