The Dayton Broomball Association is pleased to announce our current board members and volunteers.

President:  Jeff Downs - Jeff has been playing broomball for over 10 years.  He took about three years off between college and when Ashley Downs and he started the DBA.  He and his wife Ashley Downs are the original founders of the DBA.  The thing he likes most about the DBA is seeing people come out to try a new sport and becoming completely hooked after 45 minutes on the ice.  His favorite broomball memory is captaining a team that won the Collegiate Broomball National Championship in 2003.  His team defeated Clarkson 2-0 in the Championship game.  The team from Miami University also featured DBA players Ashley Downs and Bryan Newell and former player and board member Chris Armstrong.

Treasurer:  Matt Dunbar - Matt joined the sport of broomball in the spring of 2007.  He originally found out about the sport through his cousin, Chris Bahns, who knew Jeff Downs at Lexis Nexis.  The things he likes most about the DBA are the competition of the game, meeting new people, watching newbies gain skill and happy hours before games.  His favorite broomball memory is Steve Kerr running into the boards, completely whiffing on attacking the ball carrier, in Syracuse 2009 to end the game versus the top ranked team in the nation.  It spared the team from giving up another goal and although Steve was injured he still had to hear about whiffing on the attacker from the team while partying later that night.

VP of Communications:  Brian Buttrey - Brian joined the sport of broomball in the spring of 2008.  Up until that time he had never played a sport in his life, outside of phys ed class.  He learned about the DBA via an announcement on the South Metro Sports website.  There was a "Information/Introduction Session" being held at South Metro and people were encouraged to come try a new sport.  He was hooked the first time.  What he likes most about the DBA is the fact it draws from a wide range of ages and skill levels and gives many people an opportunity to play a sport where they can laugh as hard as they play.  And as silly as it may sound, his favorite memory is all the great people he has had the pleasure of meeting and the friendships that have formed throughout the seasons.

VP of Fundraising, Sponsorship & Social Events:  Phil Cheesebrough - Phil has been playing broomball since 1979 (age 19), when he organized his first team to play in the U-Minnesota intramurals.  All the games were outdoors at night under lights.  There were 260 teams.  If it was snowing, players had to help shovel off their assigned rink before their games could start.  He heard about the DBA in 2008 when someone on the Wright-Patterson Hockey Club forwarded an email from the DBA to all members of the club.  What he likes most about the DBA is all the great members, plus the fact that they allow him to play with them and their friends, even though he's old enough to be their Dad.  His favorite broomball memory also comes from the 2009 Syracuse Tournament.  It was the first time in his life he had ever participated in a traveling team adventure.

VP of Asset Management: Scott Ransbottom - Scott joined the sport of broomball in the spring of 2009.  He used to play hockey at South Metro years ago and got on their website where he stumbled on a link for the DBA.  He had watched a couple broomball games at Miami of Oxford, so when he found out it was right around the corner from where he lived, he had to sign-up.  What he likes most about the DBA is the fact you can play hard and still fall on your butt.  His favorite memory is learning from Jeff that it's co-ed teams, telling his wife that she's on the team because they didn't have any girls and then seeing her fall in love with the sport.

Head Scorekeeper:  Ashley Downs - Ashley joined the sport of broomball in 2000.  Before she graduated from Fairmont, her calculus teacher had suggested she try it while at Miami University.  So the first thing she did upon her arrival at Miami was sign-up for broomball.  It was the best decision she ever made and sends her thanks to Mitter!  Ashley and Jeff Downs are the original founders of the DBA.  What she likes most about the DBA is the opportunity to keep playing a sport that she enjoys so much right here in her hometown.  She's met some really great people through the DBA and looks forward to introducing the sport to more members of the community.  Her favorite broomball memory is when two broomball-obsessed guys showed up at her college dorm room after seeing her play earlier that day.  They recruited her for their co-ed team and that team went on to win many championships.  Turns out that one of those guys is now a very dear friend and the other is her husband!  Broomball brought her and Jeff together!
