If you can change your password, there are no password reset intervals, so you can change your password as little or as often as you want. However, you can keep strong passwords effective by changing them often. Here are some good password guidelines:

Click the Change Password checkbox [1] to create a new password. Type your old password in the Old Password field [2]. Type your new password in the New Password field [3]. Type your new password again in the Confirm Password field [4].

If your login credentials were provided to you by your institution, you may not be able to reset your Canvas password on your own. Additionally, if you log in to Canvas using your institution's authentication system, you may need to reset your password using your institution's website. If you request a password reset and the email does not have a password reset link, it will include your Canvas email address and the institution that provided you with your password. To change or verify your password, contact the system administrators at your institution.

Teachers set up their password on their own, and their passwords are not available to view by account administrators. If you are a teacher and you forgot your password, you can choose one of the next options to retrieve it.

New users see a welcome page that invites them to create a profile. Before you create a profile, you must accept the Blackboard Profiles Terms of Service in the pop-up window. If you don't agree to the terms of service, you won't be granted access to some tools. You can choose to create a profile later.

You can also change your password from your Profile page. Go to your profile and select Change Password. On the Change Password panel, type your old password and your new password. Select Save when you're finished.

The Teacher Password Reset option helps address both issues, allowing teachers to reset the passwords of the students in their school, using SDS scoped role based delegation. This article explains how to setup and enable Teachers for the scoped Password Reset capability.

If you are syncing accounts from On-Premises Active Directory via AD Connect, Password Writeback does is not currently supported by the O365 Admin Portal. Teacher Password Reset will only work for Cloud Only student accounts, not Hybrid accounts synced from on-premise AD.

If there are multiple schools, it's instead recommended to select the "Administrative Units" tab from the Groups section. Here you can select the appropriate Administrative Unit that needs a Teacher assigned.

Selecting the Administrative Unit opens up a flyout pane where you're able to view properties specific to that group and options to view which teachers are Current Password Administrators or Students within that administrative unit.

After the Password Admin role has been assigned to the specified teachers, there's nothing further needed on the back end. This feature should be visible almost immediately for the assigned teachers but note that there could be a delay in enabling and when the change actually takes place. Refer to the "How to reset a Students Password" page for instructions for teachers after they have access to the limited Admin panel.
