I am wondering if the Day of the Girl has plans to attend or present
at the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in Feb/
March of 2012? I am a member of the Working Group on Girls and we
organize / facilitate a number of parallel events and training
sessions to support girl delegates in their work at the UN. I would be
happy to make the connection if it is of interest.

Great to hear from you Emily. How was the session you organized at
the National Women’s Studies Assn in Atlanta? Pleased to read about
the recent WILL workshop for NJ high school girls. Congrats on your
new job as E.D. and eager to learn more about Sage Girl.

Thanks for your suggestion about the 56th Session of CSW. We really
appreciate Girls Learn Intl and other member organizations of WWG that
endorsed the International Day of the Girl. School Girls Unite is very
excited about UN Third Committee‘s decision to designate October 11 as
the annual day and final approval by the UNGA looks promising. Last
year 7 School Girls attended the Girls Stand Up! and this blog by 15-
year-old Marta really captures the power of Leymah Roberta Gwobee’s
speech http://schoolgirlsunite.org/node/39. Marta has been asking
about going back to NYC and it would be great to explore the
possibility of a CSW workshop to brainstorm about celebrating first
girls’ rights day next October.

Our NWSA session was great and everyone was very excited about the Day of the Girl.

Let me know if you want to talk about this year's CSW girls orientation. I am on the planning committee and we are currently working out the details for the day's events. Are you planning to bring another delegation of girls to the UN this year?

At a meeting yesterday, I'm told by the club president that many of the girls are very interested in CSW orientation and even started brainstorming about a possible workshop proposal. Let me know when is a convenient time for you for us to talk, perhaps this Friday (ideally anytime before 4pm) or early next week. Thanks so much Emily!
