The sermon by Barney Hawkins reminds me of a memorable teenage
incident during the latter years of the Second World War.
It was Thanksgiving Day. My three brothers had been drafted years earlier. I was soon to volunteer myself.
Early that Thanksgiving morning as my mother was preparing her annual meal for the four of us, she said to my father, "Grover, you and Billy go downtown, find and three soldier boys off the street and invite them to come and share Thanksgiving with us.
There was a military base near by. We did as mom directed. The soldiers came. Their home was in the Boston area. It was a delightful and memorable day.
It's amazing what little things we can do that turn into big things, while waiting and working for the Kingdom of God.
